Use avoir for possession and age.

Explained in English5 practice questionsJump to practice ↓

How it works

Avoir means “to have”: j’ai, tu as, il/elle/on a, nous avons, vous avez, ils/elles ont. Je becomes j’ before ai. French also uses avoir for age: choose the form for the person, then give the number of years. English uses “be” for age, but French uses avoir.
