How it works

The verb sein changes form with its subject: ich bin, du bist, er/sie/es ist, and wir/sie/Sie sind. A finite form of sein is required when it links the subject to a description or location.

ich bin · du bist · er/sie/es ist · wir/sie/Sie sind

See it in a sentence

Ich bin bereit.

I am ready.

"Bin" means "am" in this sentence.

Wir sind zu Hause.

We are at home.

"Sind" means "are" with "wir" ("we").
